We often hear news reports of cyber bullying, trolling and social media giants such as Facebook and Twitter getting slammed for not doing enough to take down inflammatory and inappropriate material and block and/or remove users citing improper action from bedroom sourced social media mouths.
The social media giants consistently rebuke this with claims of stepping up their game, taking action and removing those who flaunt their rules of bullying and incensing hate, for example in 2017 as can be seen reported here.
However, we are presently seeing a blatant total flaunting of the rules by a very public and visible character. Yes, yet again its Donald Trump, the Twitter Troll of all trolls!
With Trumps latest tweets, is this not a ridiculous situation of the best and worst example of bullying and threatening behaviour ever seen? And certainly, the biggest threat on Twitter?
A blatant, public and firm threat of potential Nuclear Attack naming the threatened individual. Now, no matter your feeling on Kim Jong Un and the regime, this sends a message that this behaviour on social media and Twitter in this case is acceptable and condoned.
Importantly though it breaks Twitters clearly stated rules here.
With a key extract being;
In order to ensure that people feel safe expressing diverse opinions and beliefs, we prohibit behaviour that crosses the line into abuse, including behaviour that harasses, intimidates, or uses fear to silence another user’s voice.
- the behaviour is targeted at an individual or group of people;
- Violence:You may not make specific threats of violence or wish for the serious physical harm, death, or disease of an individual or group of people.
- Hateful conduct:You may not promote violence against, threaten, or harass other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease.
So, this firmly brings into question Twitter’s commitment to its own rules. Normally the justification given is that we were not aware of the content and cannot be expected to spot all breaches of the rules. When one is ought to our attention we respond quickly, blah, blah, BLAH !
However in this case; did not spot it ? did not know about it. This trended, was shared in the media and on mainstream headline TV news channels, and yet NO, yes NO action was taken. Trump was not even forced to remove the tweet. How is this possible that any individual is exempt of very public rules.
We all know Trump acts with bullying behaviour, which is unacceptable, however he seems to now be allowed and unfettered, unpoliced voice on social media, making such behaviours an even more dangerous example and precedent.
Please share this blog and post comment to this and social shares of your opinion? Should Trump not be held to account against the same rules everyone else has to adhere to, or is he above the law as he believes?
Should Twitter not impeach him even if the regime does not?
