Social Human Resources
The key to recruiting and retaining the very best in staff
Talented people hard to retain…talented people are hard to find in the first place. The best people always have their choice of places they can work. Making sure that they at least consider your business has always been a challenge facing people in HR.
The problem is that simply “telling” people that your company is a great place to work doesn’t actually convince people that it is because no company ever says “join us because we’re horrible”!
But social HR is a different thing altogether. The people who work within your company talk about how great it is…to their friends and family (and anyone who will listen). This means that the “word on the street” is that your company is a great place to work.
Seems easy? Well, of course there is a little bit more to it than that, but the basic principle is that you use social channels to spread the good feeling about how great your business is by the very people who help make it such a great place. These people, your staff, then influence their own networks which means that often you can create a pipeline of good people who wish to join the business even before you’ve started the process of advertising a vacancy.
There are of course some processes that need to be followed, and an education process for rat staff and even some frank conversations about how the role of human resources in the 21st century needs to change…but in the long run it help the company protect its most valuable assets…its staff.
